68It truly is amazing what the human mind can do with what you think. The mind can conceive of great and mighty things that will literally change the world, and yet, it can convince you (or you convince yourself through your thoughts) that your world is caving in and there is no place to hide.  I believe it was Zig Ziglar who said, “You are what you, because of what goes into your mind.  You change what you are by changing what goes into your mind.” That, my friend, is so true, of business… and of life totally.

One of the things I have learned in business is that people, from owners to employees, need to love what they do as well as do what they love. It really is a two way street: Love what you do, and do what you love.  Some people do not love what they do for a myriad of reasons from feeling unfulfilled, not appreciated, not stimulated to grow, not understanding  nor “buying into” the vision and feeling as though there is no way out of the situation for them.  In this economic time, when cutbacks are the norm and more pressure is placed on employees to do more, it can mean to those who dislike or hate their jobs, for whatever reason, that their production and quality of work disintegrates.

First things first: You must have a vision of what kind of business yours is to be and where you want it to go.  Do you have a vision?  Have you envisioned the business as you want it to be?  Is that vision possessing you and has it become your business’s passion for existence.  Vision carries you through the rough spots and turns in the road.  It sees beyond the detours and the roadblocks.  It gives you long range purpose for doing what you do every day of your life at work, (yes, even outside of work).
